Cleaver Kids
Our Cleaver Kids Program is proudly supported by Bunge

Cleaver Kids is an early introduction to 4-H in Alberta, designed for children aged 6 to 8 (as of January 1 of the traditional club year, which runs from October 1 to September 30).
Please check out the Cleaver Kids Standards for all information. Please contact programs@4hab.com with questions.
The following four leaves are not requirements. They are skills and activities that prepare Cleaver Kids for 4-H and the world!
1. Sharing my voice (Communications)
- Cleaver Kids can be encouraged to communicate: listen, ask questions, and share their voice.
- Cleaver Kids can present at a club level in a variety of capacities depending on the individual and their comfort level.
- Cleaver Kids can participate in Communications as part of their skill development, but their presentations are not to be scored, judged, or competitive.
2. Cleaver’s Log (Record Books)
- There are no Cleaver Kids Record Books, however, Leaders can modify current Record Books as needed.
- Cleaver Kids can use the Cleaver’s Log resource as a base for sharing through drawing, basic words, and art.
- Get creative: drawing journal completed each meeting, a scrapbook session using magazines and other fun sources of images and colour, art projects that convey what the Cleavers have been working on, etc.
3. Helping Hands (Community Service)
- Cleaver Kids can be encouraged to lend a Helping Hand. Review to observe and see where they can help others.
- Clubs can include Cleaver Kids in their community service activities if appropriate. Please note that Highway Clean up is not appropriate for Cleaver Kids.
- Cleaver Kids can also do their own stand-alone community service.
4. Achieving and Celebrating (Achievement Day)
- Celebrating what a Cleaver Kid has learned, accomplished and achieved can be done all year long through debriefs, celebrations, and praise.
- Cleaver Kids can exhibit something at their club achievement day that reflects what they learned during their year in 4-H.
- This could be project work relating to a specific project (ex: a food item, craft item, a place they visited, or a game they learned).
- It could also be a poster or photo display of what was learned in the livestock project they explored during the 4-H year.
- Cleaver Kids do not win or lose on Achievement Day. If awards are given, everyone should receive one
Please Check out the Staples ePrint site for Cleaver Kids Resources.
- Developing new friendships.
- Developing a sense of belonging to the club and community.
